The Challenge

The weatherboarding was failing across the whole elevation, a flat-roof fascia board had rotted, and the sash windows needed attention — all on a prominent Grade II listed landmark in the heart of Hawkhurst where the finished result is on full public view.

What We Did

The weatherboarding on this handsome Grade II listed period property on The Moor in Hawkhurst was in poor condition throughout, with paint failing across much of the elevation. Several boards had rotted and were replaced to match the existing profile exactly.

A fascia board to the flat roof at the front of the property had also failed and was replaced and matched in seamlessly to the existing detailing. The sash windows were rubbed down and repaired where needed, then given an undercoat and three top coats of Bedec Barn Paint in satin white for a long-lasting, professional finish.

To complete the transformation we painted the black plinth running along the base of the property, right the way around. The result is a crisp, uniform finish that does full justice to this prominent Wealden landmark.

Why Repair Over Replacement

We replaced only the boards and the single fascia that had genuinely failed, matching the existing profile and detailing so the repairs are invisible. The sash windows were repaired rather than replaced, and the whole elevation — including the black plinth running around the base — was brought back with a durable, breathable Bedec system. Repairing and matching, rather than wholesale replacement, keeps the historic character intact and is the approach best suited to a listed building.
