Preserve What Can Be Saved
The first question should not be how quickly an elevation can be replaced. It should be what remains sound, why the timber has deteriorated and what intervention is genuinely necessary.
Flaking paint does not automatically mean the boards beneath are rotten, and one failed board does not condemn an entire elevation. Where original timber remains serviceable, we aim to retain it through careful preparation, local repairs, splice repairs or secure refixing.
Where a board has lost its integrity, it can be renewed on a profile that sits naturally beside the retained weatherboarding. Just as importantly, the source of the failure should be understood so that the same problem is less likely to return.

We begin with what can be seen: failing paint, staining, loose boards, local decay or deterioration around vulnerable details.
Consider the Cause
The visible defect may be connected to leaking rainwater goods, open joints, trapped moisture, failed coatings or the way a particular elevation is exposed.

Traditional weatherboarding is often an important part of a building’s character, construction and historic fabric. Established profiles, overlaps, corner details and the way boards meet windows and doors all contribute to how the elevation looks and performs.
For listed and period properties, retaining sound original material is usually the most sympathetic starting point. Where replacement is necessary, the new work should sit naturally beside what remains.
Listed building consent or other advice may be needed for some alterations or more extensive replacement.
